Baseco Resilient Communities

The Need

Baseco, Tondo stands as one of Metro Manila’s most densely populated and disaster-prone communities — where flooding, water shortages, and limited access to sustainable food sources are everyday realities. Vulnerable households face compounding risks from inadequate infrastructure, scarce resources, and the growing threat of climate-related disasters. Without targeted investment in sustainable technologies, disaster preparedness, and community-driven solutions, residents remain exposed to the same cycles of vulnerability — cut off from the resilience and well-being their community deserves.

The Intervention

The Baseco Resilient Communities Program integrates environmental sustainability, disaster preparedness, and community capacity development. It establishes community gardens through the “1,2,3 Grow!” initiative to strengthen food security and livelihood skills, installs rainwater harvesting systems and solar-powered lighting in shared community hubs to improve water access and safety during emergencies, and deploys the Master of Disaster board game in schools and community groups to build disaster risk reduction literacy — with Airbus employee volunteers driving installation and training efforts, and fostering a culture of resilience and community ownership across Baseco, Tondo.
