The Need
The Philippines faces recurring disasters — typhoons, floods, and earthquakes that shape life across the archipelago. Yet many Filipino children and families remain underprepared, lacking the knowledge to respond when disaster strikes. Beyond survival, few understand how insurance and financial protection can help communities recover and rebuild. Without addressing both gaps, communities will continue facing the same vulnerabilities cycle after cycle — because preparedness isn’t just about surviving the storm, it’s about rising after it.
The Intervention
The MOD + IE Program integrates experiential learning, community mobilization, and capacity development. It engages children and families through the Master of Disaster board game — building disaster risk reduction and insurance literacy through play. Teachers, community leaders, and MICO employee volunteers are trained as Master Trainers, bringing the program into classrooms and communities — fostering a culture of preparedness and financial resilience that outlasts the game itself.
