The Need

When COVID-19 swept across the Philippines, midwives stood at the frontline of community health — often without the training, tools, or resources to protect themselves or the families they serve. In a healthcare system where midwives are the first and sometimes only point of contact for many communities, gaps in infection prevention knowledge carry serious consequences. Without targeted capacity building, the professionals most relied upon by vulnerable communities remain the least equipped to respond when it matters most.

The Intervention

Champions of Community Care integrates master trainer development, localized capacity building, and strategic health communication. It trains midwives and students as Master Trainers using globally recognized materials adapted for the Philippine context — equipping them not just to protect their own communities, but to cascade learning to others, produces localized training materials and strategic communication tools to ensure every session is grounded and effective, and sustains impact through ongoing monitoring — ensuring that what begins in a webinar ripples outward into barangays, health centers, and homes across the country.
