Resilient Organizations Built for Sustained Transformation of the Philippines
Strengthening Philippine Enterprises Through Risk Reduction, Preparedness, and Recovery
The Need
The Philippines is highly vulnerable to natural and man-made disasters such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, typhoons, monsoon rains, and floods, ranking 11th out of 204 countries in the National Disaster Index. This frequent exposure places continuous strain on communities, infrastructure, and livelihoods nationwide. Businesses are also significantly affected, often suffering major disruptions that hinder operations and economic stability. The situation is worsened when mission-critical enterprises are unable to resume operations quickly after a calamity, delaying recovery efforts. As a result, the combined impact on people and enterprises prolongs overall recovery, highlighting the need for stronger disaster preparedness, resilience building, and rapid recovery systems.
The Intervention
The Public Private Partnership (PPP) Program, jointly funded by DEG of Germany and TUV Rheinland Philippines, Inc., strengthens the resilience of mission-critical enterprises in the Philippines. The intervention promotes disaster and crisis preparedness through the Four Rs: Risk Reduction, Readiness, Response, and Recovery. It aims to equip at least 10 enterprises with knowledge of international standards and best practices in Enterprise Risk Management (ERM), Information Security Management System (ISMS), and Business Continuity Management (BCM). ASSIST supported the initiative by conducting a CEO Forum for key decision-makers, delivering training and workshops, providing technical assistance aligned with ISO 27001, facilitating best practice exchanges, and distributing an eLearning toolkit to over 100 enterprises.
